MIAMI, May 19, 2016 – The arts season may be over for most cultural institutions in South Florida, but Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Galleries of Art + Design are as busier than ever this summer. Opening reception Thursday, June 2, from 12 -2 p.m. Brian Wong Won is a Trinidadian painter whose lyrical works celebrate the Trinidad carnival, considered to be one of the Caribbean’s greatest.

Grounded: Featuring Artists from Chiaroscuro Studio of Art
West Gallery

This exhibition will feature works by artists from the Chiaroscuro Studio of Art: Elkin Cañas, Mercedes Cisneros, Carlos Martínez León and Milixa Morón.

Mystic Wisdom: Cristian Lazzari Photographs Nepal

Opening reception Thursday, May 26, from 6 – p.m. Photographer Cristian Lazzari spent an autumn in Nepal photographing the people and their beautiful country. The following spring, a disastrous earthquake destroyed much of what will be seen in this exhibition, which is presented by MDC Galleries of Art + Design in conjunction with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Committee at the InterAmerican Campus.

Dreaming: The New California Views Portfolio

The New California Views Portfolio (1964-1979), which was assembled and produced by photographer and publisher Victor Landweber, presents a variety of processes and subject matter. This portfolio is remarkable in its early comprehension of what became a seismic shift in California landscape photography.
