Miami, Feb. 28, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will once again honor women with a month-long celebration featuring exciting in-person and virtual events at all eight campuses, including lectures, musical performances, wellness events and a mini film festival, among others.
Under the theme “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” this year’s celebration pays tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic, and also recognizes the many ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.

Several objects in the University of Miami’s Kislak Center collection depict women in various roles considered significant to the rituals of their cultures. To mark Women’s History Month, Dr. Traci Ardren joins Dr. Carol Damian and Curator Arthur Dunkelman discuss indigenous women and their roles of power in the ancient Americas. Professor Ardren will present her research into the contemporary rituals of indigenous women as a continuation of ancient practices. MDC’s Koubek Center in collaboration with Centro Cultural Español de Miami will offer a selection of award-winning films from Ellas Son Cine, a program of the Fundación Mujeres Por África.The three featured films include Sudafrica’s NOMMER 37(Friday, March 18 at 8 p.m.), Morocco’s Adam (Saturday, March 19 at 8 p.m.) and Argelia’s Papicha (Sunday, March 20 at 5 p.m.). This presentation at Koubek Center marks the first time that Ellas Son Cine has been offered in the United States. All films will be subtitled in English and Spanish.
