Miami, Jan. 29, 2024 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will officially announce a partnership with MasTec at the grand opening of its new Broadband Utilities Lab at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, at MDC North Campus. MDC President Madeline Pumariega and Jose Mas, CEO of MasTec, will participate in a signing ceremony to officially launch the collaborative initiative focused on enhancing education, workforce development, and innovation in broadband technology as part of the Construction Trades Institute (CTI) and supported by FloridaCommerce.
“As Miami Dade College remains dedicated to leading the way in preparing the future talent of our community and state, this partnership with MasTec strengthens our mission to provide students with practical experience and advanced training in broadband technologies,” said MDC President Madeline Pumariega. “Together with a trusted industry leader, we are honored to build the skilled workforce needed to connect our community and ensure students are prepared with the skills needed for success.”
The Broadband Utilities Lab will provide MDC students with hands-on experience and training opportunities in cutting-edge technology. Developed in partnership with MasTec, this new academic program is designed to align with industry needs, equipping the next generation of professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Starting next month, MDC will begin offering courses toward a new Telecommunication and Fiber Optics certificate program set for Fall 2025. Courses will run for an extensive 12 weeks. The Broadband Utilities Lab is a key addition to the growing range of offerings at the North Campus. CTI offers trainings in electrical, HVAC, plumbing and now broadband.
