Miami, April 20, 2023 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will celebrate the Class of 2023 with three Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, April 22, at loanDepot park, home of the Miami Marlins.
Below is the schedule of ceremonies and speakers:
8:30 a.m., North, Hialeah & West campuses
Speaker: Barbara Humpton, President and CEO, Siemens Corporation
As president and CEO of Siemens Corporation, Ms. Humpton guides the company’s strategy and engagement in serving the company’s largest market. Prior to joining Siemens in 2011, she served as vice president at Booz Allen Hamilton, where she was responsible for program performance and new business development for technology consulting in the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security. She was also vice president at Lockheed Martin Corporation. Ms. Humpton is a graduate of Wake Forest University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
1:30 p.m., Wolfson, Medical & Homestead campuses
Speaker: Ken Griffin, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Citadel
Mr. Griffin founded Citadel in 1990, one year after graduating from college, and today it is one of the world’s most successful alternative investment firms, investing on behalf of capital partners that include preeminent research institutions, universities and healthcare facilities. In 2002, the team at Citadel established Citadel Securities, now one of the leading market markers in the world, which has been at the forefront of the modernization of markets and market structures. Both Citadel and Citadel Securities are headquartered in Miami. Mr. Griffin has contributed nearly $2 billion philanthropically in recent years, including catalytic giving to expand access to high-quality education at every level, advance medical research, enhance public spaces and support our country’s world-renowned cultural institutions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard College.
6:30 p.m., Kendall & Padron campuses
Speaker: Alec Ingold, Miami Dolphins Fullback and Best-Selling Author
After overcoming a devastating knee injury, Mr. Ingold was signed by the Miami Dolphins, making him one of the league’s highest-paid fullbacks in the 2022 season. He has been named a team captain, a Pro Bowl alternate, Ed Block Courage Award Winner, Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominee and a Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for his work in underserved communities. His best-selling book, “The Seven Crucibles: An Inspirational Game Plan for Overcoming Adversity in Your Life,” is a hands-on playbook for conquering obstacles and succeeding in life.
