Miami Dade College and Miami-Dade County Public Schools Launch New Initiative to Expand Teaching Pipelines

Miami, June 9, 2023 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Education and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) have partnered once again to expand the teaching pipeline through a Teaching Academy Dual Enrollment Program for high school students. An official announcement will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, at MDC Padrón Campus, home of the College’s acclaimed School of Education. M-DCPS Superintendent Dr. Jose L. Dotres and MDC President Madeline Pumariega will deliver remarks. Working media is welcome.

Set to begin this fall, the program will offer high school students a sequence of courses to prepare them for a career in education. Students can earn up to nine college credit courses. They will have an opportunity to take postsecondary coursework and simultaneously earn credit toward a high school diploma, an industry certification, a college credit credential, and an associate degree with a pathway to an early childhood education, exceptional student education, secondary biology or secondary mathematics bachelor’s degree at MDC.

MDC and M-DCPS first partnered last December on the Teacher Candidate Residency Program, an effort to address the teacher shortage and establish teaching pipelines by placing students in classrooms as they complete bachelor’s degrees.
