Miami, April 24, 2018 – School of Continuing Education and Professional Development students in the General Education Diploma (GED) and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programs at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus were recently selected for inclusion in the 2018 adult learner essay book, On Our Way, published by the Florida Literacy Coalition.
“We are so proud of our students for this amazing accomplishment,” said Karina Pavone, Continuing Education Department Chairperson. “We are also proud of our instructors, Howard Camner, Janet Berger-Polsky, and Natasha Laria for working with our students to prepare their submissions and for their unwavering support and dedication.”

The Adult Education program at MDC provides English language skills, adult basic education, and GED preparation that adults need to further their education at the post-secondary level, obtain employment, play positive roles in the education of their children, and become involved community members. The program is student-centered with classes designed to maximize access through excellence in teaching, individualized student success plans, access to technology, and flexibility of locations and schedules. Adult Education is part of the renowned School of Continuing Education & Professional Development (CEPD) at Miami Dade College, the largest and always considered one of the best colleges in the country.
The Florida Literacy Coalition (FLC) promotes, supports and advocates for the effective delivery of quality adult and family literacy services in the state of Florida. As a statewide umbrella literacy organization and the host of Florida’s State Literacy Resource Center, FLC provides a range of services to support more than 300 adult education, literacy and family literacy providers throughout Florida. Special emphasis is placed on assisting community based literacy organizations with their training and program development needs.
