Miami, Aug. 29, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Education will host the Independent Schools of South Florida’s (ISSF) first General Meeting for school leaders for the 2019-20 academic school year at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 12.
“As members of a global society, a more connected, collaborative community enhances the totality of the student’s educational experience and models a positive, realistic path toward success at the next level. The synergy that comes from educational partnerships as doors are opened to share ideas and commit to projects with others allows students the freedom to soar and achieve far beyond their expectations,” said Cheryl Rogers, principal of the Cushman Schools and the President of the ISSF Board.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide a formal update to ISSF member schools on the current initiatives and future direction of MDC’s School of Education as it pertains to MDC’s teacher certification and recertification courses, endorsements, dual enrollment possibilities, and Teaching Academies as a pipeline to the teaching profession and how to start one at an ISSF school. The meeting will also serve to explore partnership opportunities and identifying collaborations that can be furthered between MDC SOE and ISSF. ISSF school leaders will be briefed by MDC School of Education Dean, Dr. Susan Neimand, on changes to legislation that impact teachers, Florida Department of Education updates on the focus of teacher preparation programs, new requirements for endorsements, and coursework in working with students with disabilities. The group will also be treated to a tour of the campus.

The ISSF was founded in 1984 and is comprised of over 70 nonpublic schools located in South Florida. All member schools are fully accredited by a Florida Association of Non-Public Schools-accrediting agency or by the South Association of Colleges and Schools.
