MDC’s North Campus Presents UNDERCOVER: My Life as a KGB Spy, a Talk with Jack Barsky

MIAMI, Nov. 7, 2019 — Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Justice, Public Safety and Law Studies will host UNDERCOVER: My Life as a KGB Spy, a talk with former KGB agent Jack Barsky about his life as a spy living in America, at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 15, at North Campus.

 Born Albrecht Dittrich in East Germany, from 1978 to 1988 Barsky remained in the United States unnoticed, living under his American alias, with a double life that included family on both sides of the Atlantic. Barsky will take attendees in a breathtaking ride through the Cold War and the murky world of undercover existence in a captivating account of espionage and intrigue.

A chemistry scholar living in East Germany when he was recruited by the KGB, today Jack Barsky is a U.S. citizen and a retired information technology executive. His life story has been the subject of numerous television reports in England, France, Germany, Poland, Turkey and Japan. In the United States, his story was unveiled nationally on CBS’s 60 Minutes.  Barsky is also the author of “Deep Undercover,” a memoir released in 2017, which has been translated into several languages. He has been featured on CNN, MSNBC, FOX and The Daily Show. Barsky is a graduate of Baruch College in New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany.

The renowned School of Justice at the North Campus has been training and educating public safety professionals for the past 41 years, domestically and internationally. More than 80% of all public safety professionals in Miami-Dade County have been trained at the School of Justice. The school offers associates degrees in criminal justice, a Bachelor in Applied Science degree in public safety management with seven specialized tracks, college credit certificates in homeland security and crime scene technology, certifications in basic law enforcement, corrections and firefighter, and private security, and specialized executive leadership training and assessment services.
