MDC’s Miami Culinary Institute to Host Extraordinary Italian Taste Master Classes and Competition

Miami, Sept. 7, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Culinary Institute (MCI), in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, Italian American Chamber of Commerce, and the Italian Association of Geographical Indication Consortia (AICIG), will present the Extraordinary Italian Taste Master Classes starting at 6:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 19 and 20, at MCI’s Food and Wine Theatre in downtown Miami.

MCI students and faculty, local chefs, restaurateurs, distributors and other local influencers will have a unique opportunity to learn about Italian products with a concentration on their specific characteristics and authenticity and with reference to the places of origin, nutritional and certifying aspects, production processes and unique areas of origin that characterize “Made in Italy.” Special guests will include Graziano Sbroggio, restaurateur and founder of Graspa Group; Andrea Marchesin, Executive Chef, Toscana Divino and Victoria Pesce Elliot, restaurant critic and food writer, Miami Herald.

As part of this collaborative learning experience, MCI students will participate in a culinary competition using authentic Italian products. The competition provides a vehicle for the next generation of chefs to incorporate and influence the use of these great products into their cuisines. The Italy-America Chamber of Commerce, Southeast will award $5,000 in scholarships to the top three winners of the competition.
