MDC’s Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex Presents a Talk with Leah Hoyer of Telltale Games

Miami, Nov. 19, 2018Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC) presents the Leah Hoyer, Vice-President of Creative at Telltale Games, as part of its Art of Tech Lecture series at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5. This event is sponsored by Sprint.

Leah Hoyer is a former attorney who left the field to pursue her passion for cartoons. After completing her MFA coursework at UCLA’s Animation Workshop in 2001, Leah began working at Disney Television Animation, where she was the Director of Development for Disney Channel Animated Series. During her tenure at Disney, Leah worked on numerous series, including Recess, Kim Possible and Phineas & Ferb.

“I create entertainment experiences,” Hoyer said.  “Actually, I work with teams of talented people who make truly incredible, interactive, entertainment experiences—because nobody makes something that is loved by millions of people on their own. I build teams, mentor people, foster great ideas, and find the best way to get those produced.”

Her specialties include portfolio strategy, franchise development, video games, animation, narrative, interactive, television, creative management, team assembly and talent development.

MAGIC’s The Art of Tech series empowers, elevates and inspires innovation within the growing digital technologies industry. The speaker series brings together a wide spectrum of executive level professionals in the areas of Computer Animation, Gaming, Visual Effects, Motion Graphics, Virtual and Augmented Reality.

Located at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, MAGIC offers an Associate in Science degree in Animation & Game Art or Game Development & Design, and Immersive Technologies Certificate program on virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Students in the intensive, hands-on two-year program develop skills in modeling, lighting, motion, sound, and storytelling, as well as gain command of the technical skills required in today’s highly competitive animation industry. Students also benefit from key partnerships and mentorships with industry leaders, including alliances with Alienware, Baptist Hospital, Disney, Discovery Communications, Nickelodeon, Museu do Amanhã, Pixar’s RenderMan, and Univision Communications, among others.
