MIAMI, April 17, 2025 – The Koubek Center at Miami Dade College (MDC) is accepting applications for its popular artist-in-residence program, En Residencia. Applications are being accepted through May 31. Local creators are eligible to participate regardless of their discipline or the stage of their careers.
As part of the program, now in its fifth edition, residents will have access to the Center’s classrooms and rehearsal studio to develop new work. Residents will also have the opportunity to participate in one of the Center’s many programs and activities, on a case-by-case basis.
“En Residencia is a cornerstone of the Koubek Center’s mission to build community through the arts,” said Melissa Messulam, Koubek Center director. “Through this program, we hope to provide a space that inspires artists to be creative, helps them sustain their practice, generates new possibilities and encourages connections—among themselves and with the community.”
During this time, artists may use classrooms and limited studio space ranging between 400 and 750 square feet. Spaces will be available Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Artists may reserve the spaces for up to two months per project, with a maximum of two projects per year. Selected artists will be notified in the summer, at which point they may begin their residency.
Current residents completing the program include actor and dancer Luciano Cortes; muralist Samara Ash; cuatrista musician Hector Molina; visual artist Jacqueline Roch; theater director and playwright Neher Jacqueline Briceño, founder of the NJB Cultural Center; percussionist and teacher Brian Potts, of the group Miami Bloco and therapist and sound healer Jared Bistrong.
Launched in July 2021, En Residencia was created with the goal of nurturing Miami’s cultural ecosystem through the participation of local artists and fostering dialogue between creators and the local community. The cost to participate in En Residencia is $200 for a one-year period. For more information and to apply, visit koubekcenter.org/event/en-residencia-2025 or call 305-237-7750.
