MDC’s Kendall Campus Presents JAZZ ON THE GREEN, An Evening Concert Under the Stars Postponed Until Dec. 13

Miami, Oct. 31, 2019Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus Performing Arts and Industries Department has postponed Jazz on the Green, an outdoor evening concert featuring MDC’s stellar jazz faculty and students, until 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13.   The event is free and open to the public. A $5 suggested cash donation is encouraged to support the department.

Directed by James Broderick, Chairman of the Performing Arts & Industries Department; and Professor Matthew Bonelli, director of Jazz Studies at Kendall Campus, Jazz on the Green brings together MDC’s all-star faculty, including saxophonist Dr. Ed Calle, jazz vocalist Wendy Pedersen, pianist Hal Roland and saxophonist Tom McCormick, to name a few, as well as alumni and students of the jazz program. WDNA’s Cary Alexander will be Master of Ceremonies.

The outdoor evening concert on the lawn will delight lovers of jazz with vocal and instrumental performances of classic jazz standards such as Joy Spring by Clifford Brown, the beloved Bossa Nova O Barquinho (Little Boat) by Brazilian composer Roberto Menescalas, Four by Miles Davis, as well as Twisted, the 1940’s bebop classic written by Wardell Gray.

MDC’s Jazz on the Green evening concert was created to bring the community together, promote jazz and gain knowledge and appreciation for this dynamic field of music. Seating for Jazz on the Green is first come, first served. Local food trucks as well as student clubs will be present selling concessions. No outside food, coolers or drinks are permitted.


Professor Linda Alvarado – Jazz Vocalist

Alvarado is a music educator and vocalist from Miami. She also leads a vocal jazz ensemble, a women’s choir, and teaches jazz voice lessons at MDC.


Professor Matthew Bonelli – Bassist

Bonelli is a jazz and popular music educator, lecturer, clinician, bassist, performer, and the director of Jazz Studies at MDC’s Kendall Campus.


James Broderick – Trumpeter

Broderick is the Chairman of the Performing Arts and Industries Department at MDC’s Kendall Campus. He remains active as an instructor, teaches music courses and directs the NightTime Jazz Band for the Music Department.



Professor Tom McCormick – Saxophonist /Flutist

McCormick has been a fixture on the South Florida jazz scene for over twenty-five years. He is currently the saxophone professor at MDC’s Kendall Campus.


Professor Sandy Poltarack – Guitar

Poltarack has played and recorded with the Boca Pops Orchestra, Florida Classical Orchestra, Miami Symphony Orchestra and has also performed live with such stars as Frank Sinatra Jr., Donna Summer, and Michael McDonald.


Professor Hal Roland – Jazz Pianist

Roland recorded with some of the biggest names in pop music, including Barry Gibb and Michael Jackson, as well as performing in some of the biggest concert venues in the world.


Duane Summers – Sound Engineering

Summers is the studio/lab manager at MDC. Duane still produces music and engineers for various artists and events such as Miami Broward Carnival and Kaya Fest to this day.
