MDC’s Kendall Campus Celebrates 20 Years of Belly Dancing with Show on May 6

Miami, May 1, 2017 – The popular Miami Dade College (MDC) Belly Dance Show is back and celebrating the program’s 20th anniversary. Students from the Mid East Performing Arts Academy, a program of the School of Continuing Education and Professional Development at the Kendall Campus, will once again mesmerize audiences with dance, music and dazzling costumes that evoke a journey to the Middle East. The show, titled Arabian Voyage, will take place at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 6, at the Kendall Campus.

The School of Continuing Education and Professional Development at Kendall Campus is celebrating its 20th year of teaching belly dance. The popular dance program, Mid East Performing Arts Academy (previously Samay Performing Arts), began in 1997 and has grown into one of the largest of its kind in Florida. Students learn and understand all aspects of belly dancing, including its history, music, and various dance styles from different regions in the Middle East.

Amara Sayid is the academy’s artistic director. She is a first-place winner of the Lelah Masriya Dance Competition held in Cairo, Egypt.

“Only a deep-rooted admiration and dedication for this magnificent culture can preserve the elegance and respect that it truly deserves,” Sayid said.
