MDC’s Jazz at Wolfson Series Presents Drummer Rodolfo Zúñiga and his band Surfaces Feb. 13

Miami, Jan. 30, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department continues its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, with Drummer Rodolfo Zúñiga and his band Surfaces, who will perform at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, in downtown Miami.

Since his arrival in Miami, Costa Rican drummer and composer Rodolfo Zúñiga has become one of the most sought-after musicians and educators in South Florida. He performs regularly with the likes of Gary Campbell, Ira Sullivan, and Othello Molineaux, among others. In addition, he has shared the stage with noted touring individuals like Randy Brecker, Lew Tabackin, Joe Locke, and Jonathan Kreisberg, to name a few.

As the bandleader and composer of Surfaces, he has led the group to self-produce two albums and maintains a busy performance schedule in Florida as well as Central and South America. In 2005 the band was awarded the Carnegie Hall Residency under the direction of Dave Douglas. That same year, Zúñiga was chosen to be part of Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead Group with whom he toured the U.S. and was featured at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. More recently, he assembled an octet version of Surfaces, comprised of a jazz trio, a string trio, electric guitar and a vocalist.

Zúñiga continues to travel the world with various creative contemporary jazz projects and renowned Latin pop star Julio Iglesias. He also teaches at several area colleges including MDC.
