MDC’s InterAmerican Campus to Host Safe in Sound Youth Prevention Summit June 30

Miami, June 24, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus will host The Urban Partnership Drug Free Community Coalition’s Safe in Sound Youth Prevention Summit on Friday, June 30, in collaboration with Gang Alternative Inc. and Live Healthy Little Havana. Funded by South Florida Behavioral Health Network, this enrichment program will benefit approximately 100 middle and high school students from the Little Havana area.

The Summit is dedicated to the reduction/prevention of youth substance abuse and will address issues and concerns that are relevant to teenagers as they navigate the challenges of middle and high school and get prepared for college and the workforce. There will be panel discussions on Cyber Bullying; College Match Maker – Choosing the right Major Choices on Personal Characteristics; and Know the Law. Panelists are experts from MDC’s InterAmerican Campus and non-profit and professional organizations in the area. Workshops on alcohol awareness and drug use prevention will be provided by a local Substance Awareness Coalition.

The Urban Partnership Drug Free Community Coalition is an urban drug-free coalition dedicated to the reduction/prevention of youth substance abuse; including the use/abuse of drugs and underage drinking throughout Miami-Dade County.
