Miami, Feb. 7, 2017– Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus and its School of Education (SOE) will host a board meeting at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, for the Council for Professional Recognition, an organization that awards the National Child Development Associate (CDA) credential needed to be an early childhood care provider.
The meeting will present a panel discussion that will focus on how Miami-Dade County supports its early childhood practitioners. Presenters will talk about Quality Counts scholarships, the Early Head Start grants, and the impact of the National CDA on student learning.
MDC SOE will share its innovative strategies to help early childhood education (ECE) professionals complete the National CDA including the dual language program in partnership with Continuing Education English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes. Also, share the career ladder that supports students from National CDA to AA/AS (accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children) to BS in ECE. MDC students will share their individual success stories of how National CDA changed the trajectory of their lives.
Participants include: Dr. Valora Washington, CEO Council for Professional Recognition; Dr. Gerrit Westervelt, Director of Early Childhood Policy and Development; Dr. Diana Wallace, Education Director of the Indiana Association for the Education of Young Children; Mel Ming, former president of Sesame Workshop, and nationally recognized ECE consultant Dr. Abigail Thorman.
