MDC’s Idea Center to Host Voices for Change: Activating Our Collective Impact Sept. 29

Miami, Sept. 25, 2018Miami Dade College (MDC) in collaboration with the United Nations Association of Miami Chapter will host its first community workshop focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to activate local commitments for change in support of SDG #13: Climate Action, Saturday, Sept. 29, at 10 a.m., at MDC’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.  The event is free and open to the public.

During the workshop, Frances Colon will host a panel of community leaders engaged in Miami Dade’s collective response to climate change, while supporting participants through a series of experiences designed to help them craft personal commitments.   Panelists include Jim Murley, Miami Dade County’s Chief Resiliency Officer, Caroline Lewis, Executive Director of The CLEO Institute, and Lucas Hernandez of the Technology & Corporate Responsibility Cities team at Microsoft.

Colon recently served as the Deputy Science and Technology Adviser to the U.S. Secretary of State from 2012-2017.  She is currently a 2018 New Voices Fellow of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, and City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez’s appointee to the City of Miami Sea Level Rise Committee.
