MDC’s Eduardo J. Padrón Campus to Host Inaugural Miami Edition of REEL Awards

MIAMI, May 29, 2019 – Miami Dade College (MDC)’s Center for Economic Education and the Florida Council on Economic Education will jointly present the first Miami edition of the Regional Economic Education & Leadership (REEL) Awards, which recognizes Miami-Dade County teachers who have delivered personal finance and economic education in their classrooms every day. The event will be held at the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus (EPC), Thursday, May 30, at 5 p.m.

During the ceremony, seven local educators from K-5, middle, and high school will be recognized and provided cash prizes. Awardees were selected following an evaluation of their achievements, leadership and commitment to economic and financial education through their participation in professional development opportunities at the Center for Economic Education, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta – Miami Branch and other programs.

“We are proud of all the teachers who have shared what they have learned about financial literacy and economic education with their students and are happy we can honor the best at our first REEL Awards,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, President of the EPC and North Campuses.

The Miami-Dade teachers recognized are:

  • José E. Miranda, Westland Hialeah Senior High School
  • Marianne Seiler-Campana, Hialeah Senior High School
  • Deanna Rodríguez, International Studies Preparatory Academy
  • Carlos Cajamarca, Greynolds Park Elementary
  • Sandy Zamora, North Dade Elementary
  • Aniutka Valenzuela-Rodríguez, Citrus Grove Elementary
  • Loren Valentine-Reyes, Air Base K-8 Center for International Education

The awards ceremony is by invitation-only, but open to the working media.
