MDC’s Acclaimed Tower Theater to Screen Best Foreign Film Oscar Nominees  

MIAMI, Feb. 13, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) historic cinema, the Tower Theater, will showcase all five 2017 Academy Award nominees in the Best Foreign Language Film category from Feb. 17 – 26. The 2017 Academy Awards will air Sunday, Feb. 26.

The Best Foreign Language Film series will include nominees Toni Erdmann, The Salesman, Tanna, A Man Called Oveand the exclusive, one-day-only Florida Premiere of Land of Mine on Feb. 25. In addition, Moonlight, nominated for Best Picture, is also currently playing with Spanish subtitles.

The Tower Theater, one of Miami’s oldest cultural landmarks, opened in December 1926 as the finest state-of-the-art theater in the South. In the early 1960s, it became the first theater in Miami to show American films with Spanish subtitles, a favorite pastime for large numbers of Cuban refugees who settled in the area. Now under the auspices of MDC’s Cultural Affairs Department, the Tower Theater continues to serve as a cinematic masterpiece connecting the community while showcasing the most acclaimed films from around the world. It is also a main venue for the Miami Film Festival.

In 2011, USA Today declared MDC’s Tower Theater “one of the 10 great places to see a movie in splendor” in the newspaper’s round-up of the best old-fashioned movie palaces in America.

Tickets: General admission tickets are $11.50 per person; $9 for MDC staff, seniors and students (not MDC students; and $7 for Tower Theater members, MDC students and Miami Film Society members.
