MDC’s Acclaimed Miami Culinary Institute Will Induct New Class of Future Chefs

Miami, Jan. 30, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) state-of-the-art Miami Culinary Institute (MCI) will officially induct a new class of 50 aspiring chefs, who will receive their chef’s coats at a special ceremony at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.

This year’s keynote speaker with be André Bienvenu, Executive Chef Joe’s Stone Crab. Chef Bienvenu has appeared on major television networks, including The Food Network, and has been featured in several cookbooks. He is currently working on his own cookbook.

MCI’s Chef’s Coat Ceremony marks the beginning of the students’ journey toward achieving an Associate in Science (A.S.) in culinary arts management and becoming a part of Miami’s dynamic gastronomic scene. This year’s incoming class includes a student from the island nation of Bonaire and a mother and son who will be taking classes together. After Francisco Marty accompanied his mother, Patricia, to enroll at MCI, he decided to join her. Although he already has a bachelor’s degree in business, he remembers “feeling so impressed with the culinary school and program that I knew this was for me and I needed to enroll along with my mother.”
