MDC to Illuminate National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower Blue for Autism Awareness Day April 2

Miami, March 31, 2022 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will illuminate its National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower blue on Saturday, April 2, in support of the National Autism Awareness Day. MDC will join thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world to recognize people with autism and those who love and support them on April 2, as part of the Light It Up Blue initiative.

About one in 44 children have been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to the CDC’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. It is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups and is more than four times more common among boys than girls. About one in six children aged three to 17 were diagnosed with a developmental disability, as reported by parents.
