MDC to Host “The Class of 2040: Building Miami’s Next-Generation Workforce” Panel Discussion Feb. 22

Miami, Feb. 21, 2024 – Leaders from the six major colleges and universities in Miami-Dade County and the Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools will convene at Miami Dade College (MDC) for “The Class of 2040: Building Miami’s Next-Generation Workforce,” a panel discussion organized by Opportunity Miami. The discussion, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. Working media is welcome.

The panel will discuss the results of a newly released report that outlines the imperative for the Miami-Dade community to focus on talent development, detailing ongoing efforts, proposing methods to gauge progress and igniting a call to action to build a working population where 65 percent holds an associate degree or higher by the year 2040.

“We must invest in our most valuable resource: our people. Through concerted efforts in education and talent development, we can realize a future where everyone in our community can thrive and contribute to our prosperity,” said MDC President Madeline Pumariega.

Panelists include members of the Academic Leaders Council (ALC) as follows:

  • Mike Allen, President, Barry University
  • David A. Armstrong, President, St. Thomas University
  • Jose L. Dotres, Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools
  • Julio Frenk, President, University of Miami
