Miami, March 27, 2023 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business, Trade & Transportation Dean, Pamela Fuertes, has been selected to participate in the Visitors Program of the Federal Republic of Germany with a focus on the Dual System of Vocational Training.
“I am deeply honored and humbled by this special opportunity to join a group of business, higher education and community leaders from other countries to share ideas, exchange experiences and learn from, at such a critical time in our global economy,” Dean Fuertes said. “Miami is a global business hub and as such, it is important to be attuned to the talent and workforce needs of our community. I am especially interested in learning about what makes the dual system of vocational training in Germany so successful, how they have adapted, modernized and scaled their program over time and across industries.”
Dean Fuertes was nominated by Miami-Dade County’s international business community and recommended by the Consulate General of Germany in Miami. She will join 18 other fellows selected from around the globe to participate in the one-week program in Germany.
“I’m pleased that Dean Fuertes, an excellent candidate from Miami Dade College, will receive authentic, up-to-date and nuanced insight into our renowned dual vocational system in Germany,” said Consul General of Germany in Miami Andreas Siegel. “This well-deserved invitation is quite timely, as MDC and the German Consulate General have been exploring ways to fine-tune ongoing apprenticeship programs in the logistics area using the German model. MDC is the perfect partner in this endeavor and, together with Dean Fuertes, I’m excited to accompany the next steps of this initiative.”
Long recognized as one of the leading vocational and apprenticeship models in the world, the Visitors Program is designed to give participants first-hand knowledge and insight into the programs developed in Germany through private business meetings, company visitations and briefings with public and private sector program partners, academic institutions and economic development agencies.
As dean of the School of Business, Trade and Transportation, Dean Fuertes oversees its strategic direction and serves as a conduit between MDC and the business community, including international business organizations.
