MDC School for Advance Studies to Hold Information Sessions Sept. 24

Miami, Sept. 12, 2016Miami Dade College (MDC) School for Advanced Studies (SAS), a full-time, collegiate high school where students complete their last two years of high school while attending MDC and, in most cases, simultaneously earn a high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree, will hold information/application sessions on Saturday, Sept. 24, for the 2017-2018 school year at two MDC campuses. The sessions are free and open to the public.

The schedule of the information/application sessions are as follows:

  • Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104th St. at 9 a.m., bldg. 7, Gymnasium
  • Homestead Campus, 500 College Terrace, at 1 p.m., room F222.

Meetings for North, West, and Wolfson Campuses will take place in October (specific dates, rooms, and times available on SAS website).

All current Miami-Dade County 10th-graders with a minimum unweighted 3.0 grade point average are invited to apply, and may become eligible for admission upon satisfying all program requirements, including earning minimum SAS college entrance exam scores. Enrollment is limited. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats available, a random selection process will be used to admit students.

SAS welcomes applicants from all public, private, parochial, and charter schools in Miami-Dade County. Additionally, many home-schooled students choose SAS to complete their secondary studies and begin their transition to college.

Students are able to obtain a true college experience since both their college dual-enrollment courses and their Advanced Placement (AP) high school courses take place on MDC campuses. All high school courses are AP level except for Pre-calculus and Research.  In addition, students receive free tuition, fees, textbooks and, if eligible, school bus and Metrorail transportation funded by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS).

Ranked by Niche as the Best High School in Florida in 2016.  SAS is located on five MDC campuses: Homestead, Kendall, North, West, and Wolfson. SAS has recently been designated as “The Collegiate High School” for Miami-Dade County.
