MDC President Madeline Pumariega Welcomes FSU President Richard McCullough for a Fireside Chat Oct. 24

Miami, Oct. 21, 2024 – Miami Dade College (MDC) President Madeline Pumariega will host a fireside chat with Florida State University (FSU) President Dr. Richard D. McCullough on Thursday, Oct. 24, at MDC Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. During this event, which is free and open to the public, both institutions will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to create new pathways for MDC students seeking to transfer to FSU.

Both presidents will share their personal journeys from community college students to leading two of the country’s largest institutions of higher learning. They will also discuss the role of higher education in driving innovation, college as an engine for economic mobility and lessons in leadership.

Dr. McCullough became the 16th president of Florida State University on August 16, 2021, with over 30 years of academic leadership. Before FSU, he served as vice provost for research and professor of materials science at Harvard, where he led initiatives like the Harvard Data Science Initiative and the Advanced Biological Innovation and Manufacturing Center. Dr. McCullough has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and serves on several editorial boards. A first-generation college student from Mesquite, Texas, he earned his bachelor’s in chemistry from the University of Texas at Dallas and a doctorate in organic chemistry from Johns Hopkins.
