MDC North Campus to Host Annual Crime Scene Investigation Miami Summer Camp

Miami, June 10, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Justice, School of Science and School of Continuing Education and Professional Development are collaborating to host the annual Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Miami Summer Camp sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. In partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, MDC North Campus faculty and staff will help teach and mentor select high school students interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and law enforcement careers. The two-week camp runs June 13-24.

High school students who receive endorsements from their school faculty are eligible to participate in this highly unique, career-oriented summer program. Activities will include crime scene documentation, bloodstain reconstruction, fingerprinting, DNA analysis, trace evidence, and bullet comparisons.

“CSI has become very popular over the last decade,” said Dr. Malou C. Harrison, North Campus’ president. “The camp’s subject matter is very attractive to young students in the community and offers an excellent opportunity for participants to see the relationship among science, math, and criminal justice while working on dynamic, hand s-on activities with lead faculty and industry professionals.”

MDC’s renowned School of Justice at the North Campus has been training and educating public safety professionals for more than 40 years, domestically and internationally. More than 80% of all public safety professionals in Miami-Dade County have been trained at the School of Justice. The school offers associates degrees, baccalaureate degrees, college credit certificates, certifications in basic law enforcement, corrections and firefighter, and private security, and specialized executive leadership training and assessment services.
