Miami, Sept. 12, 2024 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus, in collaboration with The Women’s Breast & Heart Initiative (WBHI), will host the 8th Annual Pink Walk 5K Run and Walk on Sunday, Sept. 22, starting at 7 a.m. at MDC North Campus’ Science Complex Building. NBC 6 Anchor Constance Jones will once again emcee the event.
“Breast cancer is a reality that many of us face, whether it’s through our own experiences or those of loved ones,” said MDC President Madeline Pumariega. “I know firsthand how vital early detection and awareness are. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, but when caught early, the five-year survival rate is almost 100%. I encourage all to join us for the Pink Walk, not just to raise awareness but to show solidarity and hope. Together, we can make a difference and move toward a world without cancer.”
Organized by WBHI, the Pink Walk aims to transform and save lives while providing at-risk women, college students and low-income populations with the resources necessary to beat the odds of breast cancer and heart disease. The Walk is part of MDC’s Changemaker Week 2024 (CMW), a week-long celebration and activation of the College’s commitment to change-making and changemaker education with more than 100 events and activities across its eight campuses to spread awareness, engage the community, inspire action, and offer professional development opportunities, all while reinforcing MDC’s changemaker identity and driving meaningful impact.
Pink Walk registration is $40. Participants receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal. Register at https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/Miami/ThePinkWalk. Everyone is encouraged to play an active role by setting up a personal fundraising page. Special swag will be awarded to those who raise $50, $100, and more, helping WBHI get to its $100,000 goal.
