Miami, Oct. 27, 2021  Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus award-winning Axis Creative Arts Magazine won its third Pacemaker Award, widely regarded as the Pulitzer Prize of student journalism. The magazine was honored for a second consecutive year by the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) during its virtual presentation of the Fall National College Media Convention

“By receiving such a prestigious award, our students once again shine nationwide for their talent and dedication in the literary arts,” said Fermin Vazquez, Interim North Campus President. “We also acknowledge the commitment to excellence by our faculty and media advisors that continually place us in the national spotlight.”

The North Campus AXIS magazine faculty and staff included Editor-in-Chief Izamara Zamora and Advisers Carmen Bucher, Eric Cornish and Kathleen Noonan. AXIS magazine continues to foster a tradition of excellence by being recognized as the best of the best, as this is the second consecutive year the magazine has won the highly coveted award honoring it as one of the nation’s 12 best student-produced collegiate magazines.

“The creativity displayed in the literary arts magazine is incredible – the unique formats and creative designs make the magazines themselves a work of art,” said Gary Lundgren, ACP Associate Director and Coordinator of the Pacemaker competition.

In addition, MDC’s award-winning student newspaper, The Reporter, also based out of the North Campus and with bureaus across the institution recently won another Pacemaker as well.
