Kendall and Hialeah Campuses student magazines earn Silver awards.
Miami, May 1, 2025 – Miami Dade College (MDC) North Campus’ student literary magazine, AXIS Creative Arts Magazine, wins Gold Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA)—the highest recognition by CSPA for overall excellence in student print or digital media. In addition, two other MDC student-led publications earned Silver awards: Miambiance (Kendall) and Café Cultura (Hialeah).
AXIS also recently won the prestigious Pacemaker Award from the Associated College Press and earned Third Place in the Literary Magazine of the Year Pinnacle Award in 2024 at the Fall National College Media Convention in New Orleans.
“We’re bursting with pride! This national recognition is a direct result of the incredible mentorship of our dedicated faculty and creative spark of our students,” said North Campus President Fermin Vazquez.
The Crown Awards are the highest recognition given by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association to a student print or digital medium for overall excellence. This marks the second consecutive year that AXIS has received this prestigious award, establishing a tradition of excellence and creative achievement within the publication.
“The Gold Crown Award, shining brightly on Volume 21, is a testament to the students’ and faculty’s brilliant talent and unwavering dedication: a triumph that illuminates the outstanding contributions of our creative community, and paints a clear picture of MDC’s national leadership in forging new paths in education and the arts,” said Dr. Efrain J. Venezuela, MDC North Campus Dean of Faculty, Academic Affairs. “Serving as both a creative outlet and a learning laboratory, AXIS continues to benefit from the CSPA’s rigorous annual critique—a nine-page assessment tool that has proven invaluable in helping students and advisors align their work with national standards and best practices.”
