Miami, Oct. 10, 2018 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Music, Theater and Dance Department at the Kendall Campus presents Waiting for Lefty, written by American playwright Clifford Odets. The eight-day engagement opens Thursday, Oct. 18, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 28. Admission is free and open to the public.
Directed by Aaron Alpern and performed by MDC theater students, Waiting for Lefty is a searing social indictment written in 1935, in the depths of the depression, about a group of taxi drivers planning a labor strike. Originally produced by the Group Theatre, the play was a major critical success in the early 1930s, running for 168 performances on Broadway. It was quickly adapted for smaller theaters across the country, premiering in England in 1938. The play explores various themes, including social class, exploitation, injustice, and fighting against the status quo.
