MDC Kendall Campus Presents “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band

Marine Band Features NWSA at MDC Graduate

Miami, Sept. 15, 2016 – As part of its 2016 national tour, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will perform one night only at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15. Admission is free and open to the public (tickets are required).

The Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional music organization. This year marks the 125th anniversary since the band’s first tour in 1891. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Known as “The President’s Own” since the days of Thomas Jefferson, the band’s mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Marine Band Director Lt. Col. Jason K. Fettig has chosen a diverse mix of musical selections from traditional band repertoire and marches to instrumental solos – for this special performance. The band includes New World School of the Arts (NWSA) at MDC graduate and euphonium player Staff Sergeant Hiram Diaz. He began his musical instruction at age 12 and graduated from NWSA in 2003, continuing his education at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music (CCM), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree from the University of North Texas in Denton.
