MIAMI, Jan. 29, 2020 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Kendall Campus Performing Arts and Industries Department presents Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show, directed by James Alexander Bond and performed by MDC Kendall Campus Theater students as part of its OnStage Series. Performances run from Thursday, Feb. 27, to Saturday Mar. 7, culminating with a midnight showing. Admission is free and open to the public. A $5 suggested donation is appreciated to support the department.
In this cult classic, a wholesome young couple, Brad and Janet, seeking shelter from a storm find themselves thrust into the gothic castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a cross-dressing mad scientist and his Transylvanian crew. The naïve lovebirds soon embark on a bizarre sci-fi odyssey of erotic pleasures causing them to question everything they’ve known about themselves, each other, love, and lust. Complete with a mashup of kitschy burlesque glam rock aliens, The Rocky Horror Show is a hilarious musical wild ride.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been seen by more than 20 million people since its world premiere at London’s Royal Court Theatre in1973. O’Brien’s production was adapted into a science fiction musical comedy horror film in 1975 earning the title of “cult classic” with fans flocking to the midnight showings for more than four decades. In the spirit of tradition, the Kendall Campus will hold one midnight performance on Saturday, March 7, with first-come, first-served seating. An audience costume contest will be held immediately before the midnight show.
