MDC Journalism Speaker Series Presents WLRN News Anchor and Sundial Host Luis Hernandez April 11

Miami, April 3, 2019 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) popular Journalism Speaker Series presents WLRN news anchor and Sundial host Luis Hernandez at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 11, at MDC’s Wolfson Campus.

Hernandez is an award-winning journalist whose career spans three decades. He is currently the hosts WLRN’s newest daily talk show, Sundial, and is the station’s news anchor every afternoon during All Things Considered.

HE joined the WLRN newsroom in 2014. Before joining that, Hernandez spent four years at KNPR in Las Vegas, hosting the daily talk program, State of Nevada. He covered the 2012 presidential election, the environment and immigration. He has also worked at WUFT in Gainesville. Before entering the public radio arena, he was a sports and news broadcaster in commercial radio with a short stint hosting a sports show on television.

The MDC Journalism Speaker Series was launched in February 2008 to create an exchange and learning opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in journalism. To date, 63 journalists have participated in the series.

This year’s series will also feature New York Times Miami Bureau Chief Patricia Mazzei, Brenda Medina of ProPublica and CBS4 news anchor and MDC alumnus Eliott Rodriguez.  The program includes a presentation by journalists followed by a question and answer session. All presentations are free and open to the public.
