MDC InterAmerican Campus Presents Dia de la Raza Event in Celebration of Nicaraguan Poet Ruben Dario

Miami, Oct. 4, 2016Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus will present el Dia de la Raza (Day of the Race) on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from noon – 1 p.m., to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Nicaraguan poet Ruben Darío, one of the most influential Spanish-language poets of the 20th century. This event is free and open to the public.

Dia de la Raza will feature poetry readings by Rev. José Antonio Ruiz and Mr. Rafael Córdoba Úbeda, as well as a performance by the Ballet Folklórico San Sebastián de Nicaragua in Miami, among other activities. A delicious arroz a la valenciana, a traditional dish from Nicaragua made with chicken, chorizo, rice and vegetables, will be served following the performances.

The Honorable Vice Consul from the Nicaraguan Consulate, Daniela Castro Duarte and Press and Cultural Attache Carlos A. Montiel will attend.

El Dia de la Raza, also known as Columbus Day, commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America and also serves as a celebration of Hispanic culture’s diverse roots.
