MDC Homestead Campus to Inaugurate New Student Success Center

Miami, Oct. 5, 2021 – Miami Dade College (MDC) Homestead Campus, the college’s most southern site in Miami-Dade County, officially initiates the construction of its new Student Success Center, a 60,000-square-foot, four-story multi-purpose building. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, hosted by MDC President Madeline Pumariega, MDC Vice President and Provost Dr. Malou Harrison and MDC Homestead Campus President Dr. Oscar Loynaz with campus representatives, city and county officials in attendance.

The new Student Success Center will house an array of services, including Admissions and Registration, Financial Aid, ACCESS, Advisement, Bursar and Testing. It will also accommodate the Dean of Student Services office, the bookstore, additional classrooms and computer labs. An entire floor will be a dedicated conference center and it will also include an art gallery to showcase student and community art exhibits. The facility will also be home to the Entrepreneurial Institute, with a focus on addressing the City of Homestead’s community and workforce development needs through business development and innovation.

The building has been designed by Rodriguez & Quiroga architectural firm, also responsible for the design of the original Homestead Campus, Homestead City Hall and Homestead Police Station buildings and for the design and renovation of other MDC buildings including The Koubek House, The Freedom Tower, New World School of the Arts, the Aquatic Training and Fitness Center at MDC North Campus and Padrón Campus. Construction of the Student Success Center, to be located at 301 Civic Court, is expected to be completed January 2023.

“The construction of the Student Success Center is a major milestone in the evolution of our campus and a testament of the central role that Miami Dade College plays in the Homestead community,” said Dr. Oscar Loynaz, MDC Homestead Campus President. “Located across from Homestead City Hall, the new building will provide greater visibility to the campus and through its business development function, bring our students closer to the business community in the heart of the city.”

MDC Homestead Campus opened its doors in 1985 as the College’s fifth campus with 350 students, operating out of the First Baptist Church. By 1991, a modern campus facility located in the historic business district of downtown Homestead had been built to serve South Dade’s ever-growing student population. Over the past decade, the campus has experienced remarkable growth, earning a reputation for excellence and innovation.
