Miami, Sept. 28, 2020 – As part of Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, the Homestead Campus will host a virtual panel titled !Yo no soy racista! Hispanics and Race in America on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 12 – 1 p.m. This event is sponsored by Homestead Campus Student Life.
This summer’s protests over the murder of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement sparked important conversations about race all over the world. This timely virtual conversation will feature several guest panelists, including Univision National Evening News Anchor Ilia Calderon; CNN Whitehouse Correspondent and Weekend Anchor Boris Sanchez, as well as Homestead Campus Professor of History and English Dr. Simeon Richardson.
“The Homestead Campus is excited to offer MDC students the opportunity to engage with journalists recognized throughout the world in a conversation about race in the United States,” said Prof. Jairo Ricardo Ledesma, who teaches history and sociology at the Homestead Campus and will co-host the panel. “This timely event is designed to drive much-needed dialogue in our community. It is through meaningful dialogue that real change occurs.”
