MDC Hialeah Campus to Host Virtual Talk with Dr. Jane Elliot on Racism and Its Effects on Society

Miami, Nov. 23, 2020 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Hialeah Campus’ Impact Committee will host Racism and Its Effects on Society, an online presentation by lifelong educator, author, and award-winning anti-racism activist  Dr. Jane Elliott on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. Dr. Elliott will discuss race and politics, combating racism, and how race and racial inequality have shaped American history. She will also focus on unlearning racial biases and recognizing its impact on our communities. There will be a Q & A session following the presentation.

Dr. Elliott is considered the forerunner of diversity training. In response to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968, she devised the controversial and startling “Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes Exercise.” This now famous exercise labels participants as inferior or superior based solely upon the color of their eyes and exposes them to the experience of being a minority.

She is the recipient of the National Mental Health Association Award for Excellence in Education.  Dr. Elliott has conducted diversity trainings for numerous corporations including General Electric, ExxonMobil, AT&T and IBM.  She has also conducted lectures for the FBI, IRS, U.S. Dept. of Education and the U.S. Postal Service.
