Jazz at Wolfson Presents Saxophonist Michael Thomas Feb. 15

Miami, Feb. 6, 2017 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Arts and Philosophy Department continues its successful jazz series, Jazz at Wolfson Presents, with Saxophonist Michael Thomas, at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 15, at MDC Wolfson Campus. All Jazz at Wolfson Presents concerts are free and open to the public.

Thomas has been an active member of the New York City jazz community since arriving in 2011. The award-winning saxophonist, composer and arranger graduated from the University of Miami, New England Conservatory and The Juilliard School. Thomas has performed throughout the U.S. and abroad, including tours in Central and South America, Australia, Europe and Russia.

His sideman work includes performances with Nicholas Payton, Miguel Zenón and Jason Palmer and his talents can be heard on more than 20 recordings, including his solo debut, The Long Way (2011). As a composer and arranger, he has been commissioned by school and professional ensembles throughout the U.S. He has been recognized by DownBeat magazine and the Keep an Eye competition in the Netherlands.

Thomas currently co-leads and writes for the Terraza 7 Big Band based in Queens, New York, in addition to his own quintet and trio. He plays exclusively on mouthpieces handcrafted by John Thomas.
