Miami, April 16, 2021 – Miami Dade College (MDC) will host Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses (10KSB) Virtual Celebration of Success Ceremony on Friday, April 23, at 9 a.m. The ceremony will recognize the 29 companies that participated in the most recent cohort. Through a partnership with the Goldman Sachs Foundation, the 10,000 Small Businesses Program at MDC has assisted more than 575 local small businesses grow.
Special guests will include MDC President Madeline Pumariega; Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins; Debbie Gim, Vice-President of Engagement at Goldman Sachs Foundation; Leigh-Ann Buchanan, President & Founder of aīre ventures; and Pamela Fuertes, Executive Director of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program at MDC.
“We congratulate Cohort 21 for the commitment to their businesses and participation in our program,” Fuertes said. “Thanks to the dedication, vision and continued investment our 10KSB entrepreneurs make, our community is stronger through the jobs they sustain and will create in the future, innovation they help drive and contributions they make across our community.”
The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at MDC is a top-rated entrepreneurship program designed to empower small business leaders. Through a nine-module cohort of workshops, peer-to-peer networking, business advising sessions and more, participants gain powerful knowledge and expert insight, giving them the tools needed for success and growth of their business.
MDC’s program is part of a national network of 20 sites across the U.S. Small Business entrepreneurs that participate gain practical business and entrepreneurship education designed and co-delivered in partnership with Babson College, the national leader in entrepreneurship education, access to a global network of support from expert business advisors, access to lending capital from local, regional and national Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) and other mission-driven small business lenders and upon completion entrepreneurs are introduced to a national community of 10KSB alumni.
The Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program is an initiative of the Goldman Sachs Foundation. Other partners include Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC), and Babson College. And championing support from the local South Florida business community is the Miami Dade Chamber of Commerce, The Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the Office of Small Business Development (SBD) of Miami Dade County, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, the Office of Small Business Development of Broward County, Prospera – South Florida, Cámara de Comercio e Industria Latina de los Estados Unidos (CAMACOL), Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), among other key economic development stakeholders.
Through the generous funding of the Goldman Sachs Foundation, small businesses in South Florida are eligible to enroll in the program. Qualifying business owners must be based in South Florida, be in operation for at least two years, have a minimum revenue of $100,000 in the most recent fiscal year and have a minimum of two full-time employees.
