Five Hispanic Artists Explore the Meaning of Water in New Art Exhibition at Miami Dade College

Miami, Fla. — Sept. 10, 2026Miami Dade College (MDC) West Campus Gallery and the Doral International Art Fair (DIAF) will present “Water Trail” (Rastro de Agua), a group exhibition featuring works by five Hispanic artists — Julia Zurilla, Emilia Martín Fierro, Zura Lagarde, Samara Ash and Alexandra de Yavorsky. Opening Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 5:30 p.m. and on view through Friday, Oct. 23, the exhibition is free and open to the public.

Curated by Félix Suazo, “Water Trail” features photography, paintings and sculptures that explore water as a physical, existential and symbolic element. The exhibition is presented as part of Hispanic Heritage Month under the theme “United, We Are More.”

The exhibition brings together artists whose approaches to water draw from archival research, direct observation and personal meditation. Their works examine water through different perspectives, including memory, perception, time, light and transcendence.

Julia Zurilla (Venezuela) retrieves documentary images in which tourist euphoria blends with stormy weather, while locals and foreigners enjoy themselves. Zura Lagarde (Mexico) explores the diffractions and reflections of light in water as a mirror of hidden emotions. Emilia Martín Fierro (Spain) explores edges and perception, where histories, places and people intertwine. Samara Ash (Colombia) explores time and transcendence, drawing inspiration from the folds and ripples of waves. Alexandra de Yavorsky (Venezuela) observes her surroundings and incorporates the chromatic variations of the sea as a synthesis of color and time.

“Water Trail” is organized by MDC and the Doral International Art Fair, with support from community and cultural partners including CCEMiami, ArtMedia Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas, Doral Family Journal and the City of Doral.
