Citi Foundation Awards Miami Dade College Grant to Support Small Business Education

MIAMI, Sept. 6, 2016 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Business has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Citi Foundation to continue its successful Small Business Education Program/Grow Miami Initiative, a dynamic training project for small business owners in Miami-Dade County. The next program begins in the spring with enrollment starting in early November of this year.

This contribution will help MDC extend its community outreach efforts by selecting qualified business owners from low-to-moderate income areas and offering free seminars and coaching sessions conducted by experts. This year’s program will also offer two start-up workshops and coaching sessions in Spanish.

Over the past nine years, the Citi Foundation has supported MDC’s School of Business by providing funding for entrepreneurial-based programs that targeted small business owners. Through this generous contribution, the School of Business has provided free workshops to more than 500 entrepreneurs in the fundamentals of operating and sustaining their businesses.

“We are extremely thankful to Citi Foundation for its continued support and giving us the opportunity to develop an innovative small business platform. This year’s program will offer business owners an array of seminars, including digital marketing, sales and finances. We have organized a very comprehensive program consisting of six sessions, followed by a second phase where professionals provide individual assistance to the small business owners,” said Dr. Ana M. Cruz, chair of the School of Business at Wolfson Campus.
