Miami, Oct. 19, 2017 – The acclaimed Honors College at Miami Dade College (MDC) will officially introduce a new class of outstanding freshman at this year’s Induction Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 23, at the legendary Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. The incoming students will receive lapel pins to commemorate their initiation and the beginning of their journey together.
Through testimonials from current students and alumni, first-year students and parents will learn about the endless opportunities including research with faculty, domestic and international study-abroad seminars, professional development experiences, civic engagement opportunities, and student life organizations that will enhance their academic careers.
Since its inception in 2002, the Honors College at MDC combines a rigorous academic program with global perspective, leadership experiences, and enrichment opportunities that prepare well-rounded individuals who make an impact in the world.
The Honors College at MDC has set the bar and blazed the trail as “An Ivy stepladder,” as described in a major article in TIME magazine a few years ago. Its graduates have gone on to study at major colleges and universities across the country, and its newest students are poised to continue that esteemed tradition.
Meet some of the Honors College Class of 2019 inductees:
Alban Allajbegu, an engineering major, is a graduate of the International Studies Charter High School with both a U.S. high school diploma and a French Baccalauréat (an academic qualification for French students after high school) with the highest recognition.
Emily Gil, of Cuban descent, is an English major and chief literary editor of Metromorphosis, Wolfson Campus’ award-winning literary arts magazine. She wants to become a published writer and book editor.
Nathalie Prophete, whose family is from Haiti, launched Youth Re-Envisioning the Future, a mentorship initiative which emphasizes the importance of education to middle school students in Miami’s inner cities. She plans to pursue a degree in marketing.
Felipe Zwanzger, from Chile, is seeking a double major in economics and analytics. He has placed nationally in Phi Beta Lambda Business competitions, serves as a Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Vice President and is an active volunteer with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team.
