The Honors College at MDC to Host CNN en Español Correspondent José Levy Jan. 30

Miami, Jan. 25, 2019 – The acclaimed Honors College at Miami Dade College (MDC) will host a conversation with CNN en Español’s chief international correspondent, José Levy, Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 3:30 p.m., at the Interamerican Campus.  Levy will share highlights of his 30-year journalism career, with Honors College’ students.  The presentation will be in Spanish.

Levy currently serves as CNN’s chief international correspondent in Spanish and the journalist with the longest tenure at the network’s Spanish-speaking service. His prolific career has allowed him to cover major world events including the declining health and eventual passing and funeral of Pope John Paul II, as well as the election of his successor, Benedict XVI. Previously, he followed Pope John Paul II on his pilgrimage to the Holy Land, on his visits to Egypt and Lebanon, and was present in Rome during the 25th anniversary of his pontificate and at the beatification of Mother Teresa.

Born in Melilla, Spain, and based in Jerusalem, Levy has specialized in the coverage of the Middle East, following the complex, long and bloody Israeli-Palestinian conflict, its political overtures, as well as the intricate peace process. Levy has also witnessed and covered historic events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Soviet Union, the terror attacks in London and Madrid, the first democratic elections in Iraq and the tragedy of the Russian nuclear submarine Kursk, among many others. He has met and interviewed many heads of state from Latin America and the Middle East, as well as iconic celebrities such as Plácido Domingo, Mercedes Sosa, and Julio Iglesias, to name a few.

Since its inception in 2002, the Honors College at MDC combines a rigorous academic program with global perspective, leadership experiences, and enrichment opportunities that prepare well-rounded individuals who make an impact in the world.

The Honors College at MDC has set a high bar and blazed the trail as “An Ivy stepladder,” as described in a major article in TIME magazine a few years ago. Its graduates have gone on to study at major colleges and universities across the country, and its newest students are poised to continue that esteemed tradition.
