Six Miami Dade College Students Win Scholarship to Study a Semester in China

Miami, August 19, 2014 – Six Miami Dade College (MDC) students wonConfucius Institute scholarships for Chinese language and culture studies at Jiangsu Normal University, a partner university in China, during the 2014 fall semester.

The selected students represent five different majors. They completed two Chinese language courses (Elementary Chinese Level 1 and Level 2) taught by Confucius Institute instructors in the world languages departments at the Wolfson and Kendall Campuses. They also passed the HSK test (a standard Chinese language proficiency test), a scholarship application requirement.

The scholarships are offered by the Hanban/Confucius Institute headquarters in Beijing and cover tuition, living expenses, meals, and local cultural tours in China. With strong support from the world languages departments at Wolfson and Kendall Campuses, the Confucius Institute faculty assisted students to complete the competitive application process.

MDC students have been participating in study-abroad programs in China since 2010. Last year, five students won Confucius Institute scholarships and spent one semester studying at Jiangsu Normal University. This program is among a variety of study-abroad opportunities offered by the prestigious Confucius Institute at MDC.
