Miami, Feb. 7, 2019 – Miami Dade College (MDC), in partnership with MANO Americas and in association with Maker Media, will once again host Maker Faire Miami on Saturday and Sunday, April 6 – 7, at its Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. Supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the event will feature inventions and interactive exhibits across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance and craft.
Maker Faire Miami is a celebration of innovation, creativity and resourcefulness for all ages that showcases the global Maker Movement. The original Miami “Mini” Maker Faire was held in 2013, with early support from Knight Foundation, and has grown into the premier gathering space for makers and DIY innovators in South Florida. In its sixth straight year, our city once again joins an elite band of 44 cities around the world hosting Featured Maker Faires in 2019, including San Mateo, New York, Rome, Paris, Tokyo, Berlin, Barcelona, Cairo and Seoul.
Last year’s Maker Faire at MDC featured more than 110 exhibitors and attracted big crowds. Some of the most popular exhibits included virtual reality, an active play area with giant lego-like blocks, self-driving vehicles and a BattleBots competition. There were also interactive mini-workshops for all ages, maker talks that featured local and international maker initiatives including shareable cities, artificial intelligence and the plastic waste crisis, as well as a pop-up display by Joseph Prusa Research showcasing the new MK3 printers and some of the incredible designs made with their open source machines. The Call for Makers is now open and available at http://miami.makerfaire.com/.
This year’s Maker Faire will be even more accessible and affordable for families, with special rates for children under 16 and early-bird promotions. To purchase tickets, please visit: https://bit.ly/2RJA4HW.
