Registration Continues for Miami Dade College’s 2019 Fall Term

Miami, July 29, 2019 – Registration continues for Miami Dade College’s (MDC) 2019 fall term, which begins Monday, Aug 26.

MDC’s eight campuses and outreach centers offer more than 300 distinct degree pathways leading to bachelor’s degrees, associate in arts and science degrees and numerous career training certificates in growing fields. In addition, the college offers Bachelor’s degrees in a wide variety of study fields and industries including supply chain management, information systems technology, biological sciences; electronics engineering; film, television & digital production; nursing; several education tracks; physician assistant studies; public safety; and supervision and management as well as more than 140 courses online as part of its Virtual College program. In addition, the college offers other short-term programs including apprenticeships and professional development courses through continuing education.  

New academic programs and facilities in the fall include:

MDC’s Cloud Computing Center at the Eduardo J. Padrón Campus: This newly inaugurated facility, the only venue of its kind in Florida, allows technology leaders, industry experts and students to engage and learn about leading cloud platforms and receive industry certifications, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services, Generation and Microsoft. In addition, the Cloud Computing Center houses the only College Credit Certificate and Associate of Science degree in Enterprise Cloud Computing in the State.  The Enterprise Cloud Computing Program is designed to provide an opportunity to establish a foundation in architect-scalable, highly-available application solutions that leverage cloud computing services, utilizing best practices that focus on Cloud security, cost, and reliability.

MDC Builds Certificate Program at Homestead Campus: Result of a partnership between MDC and the Lennar Foundation, this free, 10-week certificate program prepares workers with classroom instruction and hands-on training for entry-level construction jobs. Applicants must be 18 years-old and unemployed or underemployed. Courses, which begins Oct. 14, are conveniently available in the morning or the afternoon.

Center for Learning, Innovation, and Simulation at Medical Campus: Recently inaugurated, a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide students with the training needed to excel in today’s fast-changing health care industry.  This five-story Center features an entire floor dedicated to advanced medical simulation that will facilitate the practice of working in real-world clinical environments such as operating and emergency rooms. With the help of innovative technology, students will be able to recreate various medical scenarios, helping reduce errors, improve safety and elevate the quality of patient care.

New Courses to Train Cannabis Industry Specialists Toward Developing Certificate Program at North Campus:  Three new classes on Biology of Cannabis, Chemistry of Cannabis and Florida Cannabis Policy and Regulation will provide students essential skills to succeed in the booming medical marijuana industry. Courses will count toward a Cannabis Industry Science Specialist College Credit Certificate Program, currently being developed by a team of professors from MDC’s School of Science and the School of Justice.
