PBS Host and Emmy Award-Winning Journalist Carlos Watson to Speak at Foundations for Leadership: Miami Model UN Conference

Miami, Feb. 21, 2018 – PBS host and Emmy Award-winning journalist Carlos Watson will be the keynote speaker at the Foundations for Leadership Miami Model UN Conference, which will be held on February 23-24, and March 2 on Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus.

The Miami Model UN Conference engages middle school and high school students in an exploration of current world issues through interactive simulations and curricular materials. Students will have the opportunity to debate a range of issues on the UN agenda including Eradication of Poverty, Combatting Global Climate Change, Cooperating to Fight International Terrorism, Freedom of Expression: Access to Information & the Media, and the situation in North Korea.

The conference will be targeted for high school students on Feb. 23-24 and for middle school students on March 2.  The opening ceremony will be held on Feb. 23 at 9 a.m.  Watson, who is also the co-founder and CEO of OZY Media will deliver the keynote address at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 23.  He is the host of OZY’s original political documentary series The Contenders – 16 for ’16 and Third Rail with OZY, both airing on PBS. He also previously anchored shows on CNN and MSNBC and hosted a series of Emmy-winning interview specials.  He will be speaking to the student leaders and activists about the role of journalism in these challenging times of senseless violence and calls for reform.

This activity reflects the MDC North Campus’ continued commitment to serving students and community through meaningful co-curricular programs that enhance, enrich, and extend classroom learning.
