North Campus School of Entertainment & Design Technology Students Win Suncoast Student Production Award

Miami, June 4, 2020 – Two students from the acclaimed School of Entertainment & Design Technology (SEDT) at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus, Samuel Romero and Arminio Rivero, have received a Suncoast Chapter Student Production Award for their short film, “Speak Only Good of the Dead,” inspired by a Kurt Vonnegut short story.

“We are proud of Samuel and Arminio for their outstanding work and dedication to the art of filmmaking,” said Malou C. Harrison, President North and Padron Campuses. “They truly embody the North Campus spirit of excellence, creativity, and social change. Congratulations on your accomplishment!”

Romero and Rivero are both pursuing Bachelor of Applied Science degrees in film and digital production. Romero is a Mexican-born cinematographer and producer, who is currently involved in the production of a television docuseries for the History Channel and in preproduction for a feature film. Rivero is a Venezuelan-born director and screenwriter whose films address social and political issues.

SEDT professors Adrian Garcia and Tommy Demos served as faculty advisors on the short film, which was the students’ capstone project. Students that enroll in the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) program engage in industry standard learning experiences and partake in hands-on, practical training. Multiple aspects of media production are central to the curriculum and include digital production, script writing, cinematography, and post-production.
