New Chair and Vice Chair Elected and New Trustee Appointed to Miami Dade College Board

Bernie Navarro and Marili Cancio unanimously elected by peers as chair and vice chair, respectively, and former MDC Provost Rolando Montoya appointed by Governor to MDC Board

Miami, March 20, 2018 –  Bernie Navarro and Marili Cancio were unanimously elected by their peers on the Miami Dade College (MDC) Board of Trustees today as chair and vice chair, respectively, and former MDC Provost Dr. Rolando Montoya has been appointed by Governor Rick Scott as a Trustee, joining the recently appointed Jose K. Fuentes and Juan Carlos “JC” Zapata. They join current Trustees Daniel Diaz Leyva and Benjamin Leon III.

Navarro, of Miami, is the president of Benworth Capital Partners. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and his master’s degree from Harvard University.

Cancio, of Key Biscayne, is the owner of Marili Cancio & Johnson P.A. She received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern University and her juris doctor degree from Temple University.

Dr. Montoya is the retired Provost of Miami Dade College. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Technological Institute of Monterrey and his master’s and doctorate from Florida International University. He is a certified management accountant who spent three decades at MDC, previously working in the consular corps and very active in the region’s business organizations including the Downtown Development Authority.
