Miami, June 6, 2016Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Tower Theater continues its exclusive movie lineup with the United States theatrical premiere of Los Caminos de Aissa (The Pathways of Aissa), a film by Cuban filmmaker Rolando Diaz on Saturday, June 11, at 9:30 p.m.

The film will be presented, in Spanish with English subtitles, by Diaz, the film’s director, screenwriter and co-producer.  Cinematographer Julio Rodriguez and Diaz will have a Q&A session in Spanish with the audience after the screening.

Los caminos de Aissa has been nominated for four Goya Awards (Best Film, Best Direction, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography) in the category of Feature Documentary. Aissa is a young woman born in Cameroon who has lived since her childhood in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. Due to conflicts with her mother, she decided to leave her home. This separation generated a lot of pain to the point that she even attempted suicide. He has penned and directed the extremely popular comedy Los pájaros tirámdole a la escopeta.  In total, Diaz has written and directed eight feature films among which the docudrama Si me comprendieras stands out as it took part in the Forum Section of the Berlin Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and Amsterdam International Film Festival.

His feature film Melodrama was also selected by the Forum in Berlin and the Toronto Film Festival. Both films were premiered at Lincoln Center in New York City. He has directed more than twenty documentaries, including El largo viaje de Rústico, also a nominee to the Goya Spanish Cinema Awards, and eighty editions of Latin American ICAIC News, included in the list of UNESCO: Memory of the World.
